Brooks Lawrence (1987-1993)
Brooks Lawrence coached the Wilmington College baseball team from 1987-93. A former Major League Baseball Player with the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals, he was among the first wave of African Americans to play in the MLB. He won 15 games as a pitcher his rookie season, and in 1956 with the Reds, Lawrence tallied a career-best 19-10 record for a single season. He passed away in 2000.
