Baseball Falls to Rose-Hulman in Offensive Game

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College baseball team fell to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Indiana) 16-9 in an offensive non-conference contest at Tewksbury-Delaney Field on Sunday.

Both teams combined for 25 runs on 36 hits in the contest. The Fightin' Engineers would score in 8-of-9 innings that included a four-run second and three-run third. The Fightin' Quakers did the majority of their damage in the second with with a six-run inning that included RBI-doubles from Tyler Shaneyfelt and Zach Christensen and RBI-singles from Evan Kelsey and Dominic Depa. WC led 6-5 after that big inning, but Rose-Hulman regained the lead in the top of the third with a two-run home run off the bat of Ben Christiansen. The Engineers wouldn't trail the rest of the way.

Brayden Kisling took the loss for Wilmington in relief, allowing eight runs (four earned) on eight hits with five walks and four strikeouts in five innings pitched. GlenAllen Anderson started the game for WC while Tre Nixon and Nathan Oliger pitched the eighth and ninth innings respectively. Isaac Wanninger earned his first win of the season for Rose-Hulman, pitching 3.1 innings of one-run baseball in relief. He came in for starter Zacheus Carr, who gave up six runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings. 

Offensively, a trio of Engineers - Manuel Lopez, Andy Krajecki and Christiansen - had three-hit games with Christiansen leading the way in the RBI category with five. Seven of the Engineer's 19 hits were of the extra-base variety. For the Quakers, Shaneyfelt went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and a urn scored at the top of the lineup while Depa went 3-for-5 with RBIs as well.

Wilmington (17-17) hosts Mount St. Joseph University for a single game at Tewksbury-Delaney Field on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
