Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SPRINGFIELD – The Wilmington College baseball team was swept by Wittenberg in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday at Carleton Davidson Field. The twinbill was moved from Saturday due to inclement weather.

WITTENBERG 8, WILMINGTON 3 (GAME ONE)

Wittenberg scored five runs in the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie to post the win in the opener. The Tigers took advantage of three wild pitches and a walk, along with five hits, to score the five runs in the game-changing inning.

Wilmington claimed the lead in the top of the third inning as senior Tyler Schrock (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) singled home freshman Jarett Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field), and then Schrock scored on a RBI double by sophomore Jake Robinson (Westerville, OH/ South).

The Tigers knotted the game with a single run in the bottom of the third, and then took the lead in the fourth.

Senior Luke Matthews, 0-2, (Centerville, OH/Centerville) took the loss in relief, allowing four earned runs in 2/3 of an inning. Freshman Jared Ferenchak (Concord, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) started and surrendered three runs, two earned, on three hits in three innings. He battled control for his entire outing with four walks.

Schrock finished 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI, while freshman Coltin Shafer (Florence, KY/Ryle) was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Freshman Antonio Miller (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) also registered an RBI.

WITTENBERG 8, WILMINGTON 3 (GAME TWO)

For the second straight game, the Tigers used a big inning to snap a tie and record the 8-3 victory.

Wittenberg took the lead with single runs in the third and fifth innings before the Fightin' Quakers dented the plate. Freshman Jake Hyatt (Madeira, OH/Madeira) doubled home Robinson in the sixth, and freshman Alec Robinette (Lebanon, OH/Little Miami) stole third and scored on an error in the seventh to pull even.

Senior Corey Walker, 0-4, (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) gets the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work. He added one strikeout and one walk in the outing.

Four different players – Miller, Schrock, Hyatt and sophomore Daniel Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) – recorded a hit in the loss.

Wilmington (3-14) opens Ohio Athletic Conference action 1 p.m. Friday with a road doubleheader with Muskingum.
