Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Wilmington College baseball team dropped both ends of their Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with Muskingum Monday at Tewksbury-Delaney Field. The Muskies claimed the opener 11-2, and won the nightcap, 8-3.

Wilmington (3-21 overall, 0-10 OAC) travels to Otterbein 1 p.m. Tuesday for another OAC twinbill.

GAME ONE: MUSKINGUM 11, WILMINGTON 2

Wilmington allowed five runs in the top of the sixth inning, and fell to Muskingum 11-2 in the opening game of the doubleheader.

The five-run outburst came on the heels of the Fightin' Quakers battling back from a 2-0 deficit.

Junior Clay Cleaver (Pleasant Plain, OH/Little Miami) kicked off the scoring inning with a one-out single, moved to third on a single by senior Roenick Whitney (Goshen, OH/Goshen) and scored on a throwing error. The error moved Whitney all the around to third, putting him in position to score off of junior Cole Voltz's (Mt. Pleasant, OH/Madison Plains) infield single.

Starter Derek Peters (Fayetteville, OH/Fayetteville) settled down after surrendering two first-inning home runs. He allowed two hits over the next three innings to keep Wilmington close. However, reliever Samuel Cranor (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) allowed five runs (three earned) in 2/3 of an inning to take the loss (1-5).

Freshman Jake Robinson (Westerville, OH/Central) and junior Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) also had hits for Wilmington.

GAME TWO: MUSKINGUM 8, WILMINGTON 3

Juniors Max Ramsey (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) had a career-high three hits, but Wilmington fell to Muskingum in the second game, 8-3. He singled in the third, fourth and ninth innings.

Muskingum raced out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in the first and third innings before WC got a run in the fourth. Cleaver beat out a potential inning-ending double play to score Ramsey. Robinson pulled Wilmington a run closer with solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. A two-out single by Ramsey scored freshman Kyle Short, and Wilmington trailed 4-3 in the fourth.

However, the Muskies answered with a three-spot in the fifth and another run in the sixth.

Cleaver was 2-for-4, added two stolen bases and now leads the team with nine.

Daniel Hayes, Whitney and junior Tyler Schrock (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) also had hits for Wilmington.

Walker (0-5) allowed eight runs (four earned) on seven hits with one strikeout and two walks.
