RICHMOND, IN – Senior Mike Orahood (South Vienna, OH/Southeastern) smacked a leadoff double in the ninth inning to prevent the Wilmington College baseball team from being no-hit in the season-opening, 10-1, loss to Earlham Saturday in non-conference action at Randal Sadler Stadium.

The two teams conclude their three-game series 1 p.m. Sunday with a pair of seven-inning games.

Wilmington scored its only run in the top of the eighth inning as junior Clay Cleaver (Pleasant Plain, OH/Little Miami) grounded out with bases loaded. All three runners – Kyle Short (Trenton, OH/Edgewood), Daniel Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) and Jake Robinson (Westerville, OH/Central) – all reached via a walk leading up to Cleaver's ground ball.

Despite not getting a hit until the ninth inning, Wilmington had runners in scoring position. However, the Fightin' Quakers were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and 0-11 with runners on base.

Earlham tallied all its runs in four of the first five innings, including a five-run fourth.

Junior Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) falls to 0-1 on the season, allowing four earned runs (six total) in three innings of work. Sophomore Samuel Cranor (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) allowed one hit over the final two innings.
