(AKRON, Ohio) – Sondre Haugen made history Saturday night for the Quakers men's swimming program inside the Ocasek Natatorium. He became the first Quaker in program history to be named the OAC Men's Swimmer of the Year.
He helped the Quakers to a third-place team finish with 417.5 points. Haugen won his third OAC Championship of the meet tonight, taking the 1650 Yard Freestyle in a dominant time of 16:18.45, winning by over 20 seconds and setting a new program record in the event. This is the fifth individual OAC Championship of Haugen's career and sixth total individual All-OAC honor. He becomes the first Quaker since David Hawk in 2014-15 to win three OAC Championships.
Earning the first All-OAC honor of his career tonight was sophomore
Parker Basener in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Coming into the finals, he wasn't a favorite to be All-OAC, but he proved everyone wrong and came away with a second-place finish at 2:05.51, shaving nearly five seconds off his prelims run.
Senior
John Good tied for sixth in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:58.45. A trio of Quakers in
Bryce Hensley (52.25),
Jake Stein (53.62), and
Andrew Patterson (54.33) had solid runs in the B finals of the 100 Yard Freestyle.
This is the Quakers second third place finish in program history at the OAC Championships and first since 2014-15.
