(WESTERVILLE, Ohio) – For the second straight week, the Wilmington College football team had a player earn Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Athlete of the Week honors. This week, it was sophomore
Kai Smith as the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Smith returned a kickoff early in the second quarter for Wilmington in their game at Baldwin Wallace University Saturday afternoon 100 yards for a touchdown. He finished the game with four returns for 159 yards. During his return, he faked a handoff to senior
De'Anta Sanon, fooling the Yellow Jackets defense and allowing Smith to streak down the Quakers sideline for the score.
Smith's kickoff return touchdown is just the fourth for Wilmington since at least 2006, and the longest during this time period. He joins teammate
Darryl Story who did it last week against Wooster, Ameer Jackson from 2021 at Muskingum, and Justin Lee from 2015 at John Carroll.
Wilmington is back on the field at Muskingum University Saturday afternoon in New Concord at 1:30 P.M.
