(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College football team got their revenge on The College of Wooster Saturday night in Williams Stadium, beating the Scots 59-35 to start their 2025 season, 1-0 after losing to them on the road last season.
The Quakers scored the first four touchdowns of the game to take a commanding 28-0 lead. These scores included a 74 yard catch and run by senior
De'Anta Sanon, a 36-yard pass to senior
Darryl Story and a 31-yard touchdown run by sophomore
Kai Smith.
The end of the first half was a crazy one as Wilmington held a 35-7 lead with 2:23 remaining in the second quarter. Wooster scored with 43 seconds left and Story immediately followed this with a 77-yard kick return touchdown to put Wilmington up 42-14 with just 30 seconds remaining.
This was the first kick return touchdown for the Quakers since September 25th, 2021, where Ameer Jackson took a Muskingum University kick to the house for 87 yards.
After the kick return, Wooster managed to get into the end zone on a 35-yard touchdown pass for a 42-21 deficit at the break.
The second half was more of the same for big plays, with Wooster cutting it to 14 at 42-28 after a 32-yard touchdown pass. Wilmington put the game out of reach with a pair of touchdowns in a row for a comfortable 56-28 advantage.
Logan Lovins scored on a 27-yard pass before
Isaac Ross ran one in from one yard out. The Quakers won the game 59-35.
Notables
- Senior Isaac Ross threw for 267 yards, going 13-23 and throwing three touchdowns and scoring one on the ground.
- Kai Smith had the second-best game of his career on the ground, taking the ball 18 times for 166 yards while not losing a single yard. He scored twice with a long rush of 31 yards.
- De'Anta Sanon led the team through the air with two catches for 96 yards, including his 74-yard touchdown catch.
- Darryl Story caught three passes for 60 yards and a touchdown, including his kick return touchdown.
- Junior Nathan Nemeth had nine tackles (seven solo, two assists), and also had an interception with a 10-yard return.
- Senior Gavan Hunter had eight tackles (two solo, six assists) and half a tackle for loss.
- Senior James Rankin led the team with 1.5 tackles for loss.
- Junior Bryce Hodapp recorded the lone sack for Wilmington, which brought the Scots back eight yards.
- The Quakers put up 514 yards of total offense to Wooster's 408, including out gaining them on the ground, 247 to 46.
