(DELAWARE, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's swimming team won the Corbiere-Merion Invitational today at Ohio Wesleyan University with a team score of 666 points. They took down the second place Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan by 35 points. The Quakers made a comeback after trailing by just two points at 430-428 after day one yesterday. Wilmington gets a win in this meet after finishing second last season.
The Quakers had eight individual victories this weekend, as junior
Sondre Haugen led the way with four wins. He started yesterday with a win in the 100 Yard Butterfly, as he broke his own program record in the event with a time of 50.77 seconds. His previous record was 51.69 seconds. He took the 100 Yard Freestyle by over two seconds, swimming a time of 46.22 seconds. He snuck away with a tight win in the 50 Yard Freestyle at 21.75 seconds, before finishing his individual weekend with a win in the 1650 Yard Freestyle at 16:30.78. He showed his range, winning the longest and shortest freestyle events of the weekend, as he took the 1650 Freestyle by nearly a minute and a half, with second finishing in 17:59.55.
Sophomore
Jo Pedersen won three individual events for the Quakers. He started with a victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle at 1:44.20 before taking the 200 Yard IM in 1:58.96. He was the lone swimmer to finish the 200 Yard IM in under two minutes. In the 100 Yard IM, Pedersen grabbed the win with a time of 53.17 seconds. He also competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
The final Quaker to win an individual event was junior
John Good who won the 100 Yard Backstroke in close fashion at 52.23 seconds while second place finished in 52.55 seconds. In the 50 Yard Freestyle, Good finished second just behind Haugen at 21.89 seconds while Haugen swam 21.75 seconds. He also competed in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
Sophomore
Adam Moneypenny had three second place finishes and one third place finish. In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, he touched the wall in 1:00.05 for second place before taking third in the 200 Yard IM at 2:02.81 just behind second place who finished in 2:02.44. The 200 Yard Breaststroke saw Moneypenny finish second with a time of 2:15.62, before his final event was the 400 Yard IM. In that, he touched the wall in 4:32.69 to finish in second.
Senior
Austin Reed was second in the 200 Yard Freestyle behind Pedersen at 1:48.88. In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Reed swam a 48.31 for second place. He also competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
A pair of sophomores in
Bryce Hensley and
Nathan Duerk had third place finishes. Hensley was third in the 500 Yard Freestyle at 5:41.54, while also competing individually in the 50- and 100-Yard Freestyles. In the 400 Yard IM, Duerk was third with a time of 4:57.22. Duerk also competed individually in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard IM, and 200 Yard Butterfly.
The Quakers won a pair of relays in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay and the 400 Yard Medley Relay. The team of Good, Moneypenny, Haugen, and Pedersen set a new program record in the 400 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 3:30.58. Pedersen, Reed, Haugen and Good won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:10.81.
The team of Haugen, Good, Reed, and Duerk were second in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 7:24.87. Despite the finish, Haugen set a new program record in the 200 Yard Freestyle during the lead leg, as he swam a time of 1:41.16.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Pedersen, Reed, junior
Jake Stein, and Good finished second at 1:29.12, losing by just over a second.

The Quakers have a long break after finishing the first portion of their season. They are back in action on January 11th at 1:00 P.M. in the Wilmington Natatorium against Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opponent Heidelberg University and Anderson University (Ind.).
