(AUSTIN, Texas) – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced their 2024-25 Academic All-America Men's Track & Field/Cross Country teams today and the Wilmington College men's team had three athletes honored. There were 46 total athletes across all of NCAA Division III to earn this prestigious recognition.
Wilmington's honorees were
Nathen Borgan,
JJ Durr, and
Simon Heys. Borgan and Durr were named to the Second Team while Heys was honored on the Third Team. Borgan and Durr earned the honor for the first time in their careers, while Heys was recognized for the third time (Second Team in 2022-23 and Third Team in 2021-22). This was the Quakers most track & field/cross country athletes honored as CSC Academic All-American since at least the 2019-20 academic year.
The three athletes were named CSC Academic All-District in June by being a sophomore or higher both academically and athletically and having at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Athletically, they had one of the following: a top-50 individual performance at your respective 2024 NCAA regional race or in track & field had a top-50 regional ranking in a single event (indoor or outdoor).
To become CSC Academic All-American, all eligible CSC members were encouraged to vote within their respective division for this honor. Along with dues paying members, the members of the Academic All-America Core Committee, the Academic All-America Hall of Fame Committee, the Executive Board of Directors and CSC national staff also voted for Academic All-America teams in every division.
Heys was a Sport Management & Communication Arts-Digital Media Production major during his undergraduate years before joining the Master of Organizational Leadership program this academic year. Heys led the Great Lakes region in the 5000 Meter Run this spring and was second in the 10,000 Meter Run, while also sitting ninth in the 1500 Meter Run. He was third nationally in the 5000 and 20th nationally in the 10,000. He advanced to nationals, where he finished as a First Team All-American (8th) in the 10,000 Meter Run.
Borgan was a Business Administration-Finance major as an undergraduate student before joining the Quakers Master of Organizational Leadership program. He led the country in the Hammer Throw this season in the spring and was third in the region and fifth in the country in the Weight Throw during the winter. He went on to be a First Team All-American in the Weight Throw (4th) before winning the National Championship in the Hammer Throw in May.
Durr was an Exercise Science major who led the country in the Weight Throw and was second nationally in the Hammer Throw this season. He won the National Championship in the Weight Throw during the winter and was a First Team All-American (4th) in the Hammer Throw in May.
