Borgan Wins National Championship, Durr All Americans on Final Day of Outdoor Championships

(GENEVA, Ohio) – After four years of hard work, senior Nathen Borgan accomplished what just three other male Quakers have done in their Wilmington College career, win a National Championship.

Borgan entered the Hammer Throw competition Saturday afternoon as the favorite after finishing as the runner up last season and posting the longest mark of this season heading into the event.

He took over first place on his second throw with a toss of 63.34m and never relinquished it en route to the title. Borgan improved on his mark two times throughout the competition, with tosses of 64.47m on his third throw and his eventual winning mark of 64.74m. With the championship already in the bag, he had the honor of the being the last competitor to throw, where he bested his mark with the aforementioned 64.74m toss.

He joins senior JJ Durr as the only Quakers to ever win a National Championship in a throwing event in Wilmington College history, as Durr won the Weight Throw indoors earlier this season.

Speaking of Durr, he finished fourth this afternoon with a mark of 62.37m. He was leading the competition until Borgan took over the lead on his second throw. Durr sat in second place until the final throw of the finals, where unfortunately, a pair of competitors jumped him with personal best throws to take second and third place. Durr had one more shot at getting back into second place, but his mark of 62.32m wasn't enough.

Borgan and Durr end their Quakers careers by putting Wilmington throwing on the map and re-writing the program and national record books. They combined for 10 First Team All-American nods and two National Championships. They both finished as First Team All-Americans three times in the Hammer Throw and two times in the Weight Throw while Durr won the Weight Throw and Borgan won the Hammer Throw National Championships.

Also concluding his incredible Wilmington College career as a seven-time First Team All-American was graduate student Simon Heys. He ran in the 5000 Meter Run and finished 19th in a time of 14:40.48. With 800 meters to go, Heys found himself in third place with a chance to take the title. Unfortunately, he fell back over the final two laps.

He ends his career as a three time All-American in cross country, three-time First Team All-American in the 10,000 Meter Run, and one time First Team All-American in the indoor 5000 Meter Run.

The Quakers finished in a tie for 13th as a team with 16 points.

What's Up Next
This concludes an incredible year for the Quakers men's track and field team, as they ended the indoor and outdoor season with five combined First Team All-Americans and two National Champions.

They will be back in action in the winter for indoor season.
