Baldwin Wallace Edges Softball in Defensive Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BEREA, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team fell to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) rival Baldwin Wallace University (BW) in two games on Saturday as the Yellow Jackets won game one 1-0 and took game two 5-3.

Nikki Camarati, BW's starter, stole the show in game one as the freshman pitched a no-hitter and allowed just two baserunners in the form of walks to along with nine strikeouts. Her counterpart, Wilmington starter Grace Shell, allowed just two hits. Unfortunately for the Quakers, both of those hits would come in the same inning as an Ashley Matousek lead-off double came around to score.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets tagged Wilmington's game-two starter, Hayley Suchland, for five runs in 2.2 innings including RBI-triples from Kami Helm and Alexis Boledovic. Trailing 5-0, the Quakers' bats finally got going in the top of the fourth as Micalah Hensley doubled to right field with one out. She would score on a BW error two batters later. With two outs, Kaylee Barber cut the deficit to 5-2 with an RBI-single to right field.

Alexis Stringfellow, who relieved Suchland to finish out the third inning, wouldn't allow the hosts to score over the final 3.1 innings. In the fifth, the Quakers got "ducks on the pond" (runners at second and third) with two outs, but a strikeout prevented any runs from scoring. An innings later, Megan Crager hit an RBI-single that scored KenDahl Bowles, but Ali Dixon was thrown out at home to end the inning. Abby Cosart completed the save in the seventh.

Camarati was the winning pitcher for the second straight game allowing two unearned runs with four strikeouts. Suchland dipped to 2-3 with the loss while Stringfellow scattered three hits and recorded 10 outs in relief.

Crager and Suchland finished 2-for-3 at the top of Wilmington's lineup while four other Quakers tallied one hit each. Boledovic led BW with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBIs.

Wilmington (14-8, 2-6 OAC) hosts Otterbein University on Wednesday. The OAC doubleheader is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
