Box Score 2 FT. MYERS, FL – The Wilmington College softball team split two games on the final day of their participation of the 2017 Gene Cusic Classic. The Fightin' Quakers fell to NCAA participant Castleton, 3-2, and then knocked off Nazareth, 11-2.
GAME ONE: CASTLETON 3, WILMINGTON 2
- Senior Becca Carpenter, 0-5, (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) struck out seven over seven innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits.
- Seven different players recorded a hit for the Fightin' Quakers.
- Senior Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) and freshman Micalah Hensley (Houston, OH/Houston) picked up RBI in the fifth inning.
GAME TWO: WILMINGTON 11, NAZARETH 2
- Freshman Grace Yoder went a career-best 5-for-5 with a double, run scored and RBI.
- Wilmington scored six runs on eight consecutive two-out hits in the sixth inning.
- After averaging with 3.22 hits per game with two outs, the Fightin' Quakers recorded 15 two-out hits in the game.
- Seven players had multiple hits. Junior Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington), along freshmen Jillia Cook (Canton, OH/Glen Oak) and KenDahl Bowles (Middletown, OH/Madison) had three hits. It was career-high totals for the freshmen.
- Bowles, who was spectacular defensively, added a career-high four RBI.
- Sophomore Allison Pierce (Troy, OH/Troy), in her first start of the season, finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
- Junior Beth Persicano, 1-2, (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati (OH) Turpin) allowed two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
