MARIETTA – Late-inning offense enabled the Marietta Pioneers to take two from the Wilmington College softball team as the Fightin' Quakers opened Ohio Athletic Conference action Saturday.

The Pioneers scored seven runs in the fifth inning of the opener for the 10-2 victory, and then tallied four runs in the sixth inning of the night cap for the 6-3 win.

Senior Danielle Monnier (Houston, OH/Houston) took the loss (4-5) in the first game, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and six walks.

Sophomore Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) opened the game with a double, and came around to score on a Kaylee Cox (Elgin, OH/Elgin) two-out single. Marietta took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third.

Senior Catlin Shilling (Waverly, OH/Waverly) hit her fifth homerun of the season, a solo shot in the fifth that pulled Wilmington to within 3-2 in the fifth. Shilling and Cox combined for four of WC's six hits.

Freshman Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) allowed four earned runs on five hits to take the loss (3-5). She had two strikeouts with three walks in five innings of work. Trautman was also 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Wilmington took the lead with two runs in the first, but MC knotted the game with two in the fourth.

The Fightin' Quakers loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh inning, after a force out at the plate, Wilmington's lone run came on a wild pitch. A strikeout and lineout ended the threat.

Wilmington (7-10) returns to the diamond in non-conference action against Mount St. Joseph 4 p.m. Monday.
