(SHELBYVILLE, Ind.) – The Quakers Women's Cross Country team battled high temperatures for a second straight meet to start the fall and claimed an excellent sixth place finish at the Grizzly Invite this morning, hosted at Franklin College. Bouncing back from the Quaker Opener on Tuesday, the women were led by several standout individual performances, none more impressive than that of senior
Hayden Setty.
For the second meet in a row, the Quakers took the line without reigning three-time All-OAC honoree
Morgan Blair and senior
Meghan Cory, leaving Setty to carry the torch. Setty did just that, leading the Quakers across the line with a time of 20:34, notching an 18th-place finish. She was followed by freshman
Sophia France, who finished in a time of 22:31 and claimed 59th place. Just behind France was sophomore
DaShae Washington, who placed 66th, running a collegiate-best 5k time of 23:10 and dominantly outpacing the opening 5k of her freshman campaign.
In fourth place for the Quakers was sophomore
Addison Naus, who took 85th with a time of 24:30. Rounding out the top 5 was sophomore
Heather Dutenhaver with a time of 25:57 for 93rd place, strongly outpacing her performance in last year's opener. In sixth place was freshman
Etta Moore, racing her first collegiate 5k and claiming 96th place with a time of 26:34. Rounding out the Quaker scorers were sophomore
Channing Toy, who competed in the first 5k of her life today and ran a respectable time of 27:11 to place 101st.
All told, the Quakers put together a strong first 5k of the season that included a number of personal best openers in the face of extreme heat and a competitive field, and did so despite the absence of two of their key contributors. They will get a much-deserved weekend off next week before visiting Cedarville for the All-Ohio Championships on September 18th, where they will run their first 6k of 2026.
