(WESTERVILLE, Ohio) – After qualifying for the 2026 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Men's Soccer Tournament, the sixth-seeded Wilmington College Quakers travel north on I-71 to face the third-seeded Otterbein University Cardinals in the tournament quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon.
This marks the third consecutive season the Green and White have qualified for the postseason and the third straight year they will face the Cardinals in the OAC Tournament.
How the Quakers Got Here
After opening OAC competition with an 0-1-3 record, Wilmington rallied to win two of its final four conference matches to secure a postseason berth.
One of the biggest victories during that stretch came against the fourth-seeded Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets. Wilmington earned its first conference victory of the season when Tannar Beermann scored a late game-winning goal to secure three points on the road.
Entering the final day of the regular season, Wilmington needed a victory over Muskingum University, combined with either a Capital University loss or a Marietta College loss or draw, to qualify for the postseason.
The Quakers delivered when it mattered most, defeating Muskingum 2-1 on the road in a must-win situation. Then, with Capital falling to Otterbein, Wilmington secured enough points to claim the sixth and final seed in the OAC Men's Soccer Tournament.
Last Time Out Against Otterbein: Slow Start Sinks Quakers in 4-2 Loss to Cardinals
Wilmington fell to Otterbein 4-2 on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the teams' regular-season meeting.
The Cardinals wasted little time taking control, scoring just over a minute into the match on a set piece to grab an early 1-0 advantage. Otterbein doubled its lead two minutes later, capitalizing on a throw-in opportunity to take a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes.
In the 40th minute, Otterbein extended its advantage to three goals, scoring following another long throw-in into the penalty area.
However, Wilmington responded just 16 seconds later when William Jansson found the back of the net off a pass from Max Barnishin, cutting the deficit to 3-1 heading into halftime.
The Quakers had an opportunity to pull within one early in the second half after drawing a penalty kick in the 51st minute. However, Otterbein's goalkeeper made a diving save to preserve the Cardinals' two-goal advantage.
Otterbein capitalized on a penalty kick of its own in the 62nd minute after drawing a foul inside the box, extending its lead to 4-1.
Wilmington answered again in the 66th minute when Logan Kent scored off a pass from Aidan Barnishin, bringing the Quakers back within two goals at 4-2.
Despite Wilmington's continued offensive pressure, neither team scored again as Otterbein secured the conference victory.
