Slow Start Sinks Quakers in 4-2 Loss to Cardinals

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington Quakers fell to the Otterbein Cardinals 4-2 Wednesday evening at Williams Stadium, dropping the Quakers to 1-2-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play.

Otterbein wasted little time taking control, scoring just over a minute into the match on a set piece to grab an early 1-0 advantage. The Cardinals doubled their lead two minutes later, capitalizing on a throw-in opportunity to take a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes.

In the 40th minute, Otterbein extended its advantage to three goals, scoring following another long throw-in into the penalty area. However, Wilmington responded just 16 seconds later when William Jansson found the back of the net off a pass from Max Barnishin, cutting the deficit to 3-1 heading into halftime.

The Quakers had an opportunity to pull within one early in the second half after drawing a penalty kick in the 51st minute. Unfortunately for Wilmington, Otterbein's goalkeeper made a diving save to preserve the Cardinals' two-goal advantage.

Otterbein capitalized on a penalty kick of its own in the 62nd minute after drawing a foul inside the box, extending its lead to 4-1.

Wilmington quickly answered once again when Logan Kent scored off a pass from Aidan Barnishin in the 66th minute, bringing the Quakers back within two goals at 4-2.

Despite Wilmington's continued offensive pressure, neither team scored again as Otterbein secured the conference victory. The loss marked just the second OAC defeat of the season for Wilmington.
