(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - Danie Shafer enters her first year as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Wilmington College ahead of the 2025-26 season. Shafer joins the Quakers with an abundance of both basketball playing and coaching experience. Her role will primarily focus on recruitment and player development, and include practice planning and scouting.

Shafer, a native of Dayton, Ohio, attended Urbana University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Sport Business in 2018. She then earned her Master of Science in Marketing from the University of Nottingham in 2019. At Urbana, Shafer was a member of the Women's Basketball team. She was 1st Team All-Conference, Female Athlete of the Year, and a Preseason All-American. She holds program records for 30+ point games, 3-pointers made, and 3-pointer percentage.
After playing collegiately, she moved to Europe to play professionally. Shafer has made stops in Iceland, the Netherlands, Germany, England, and Serbia playing as a point guard and shooting guard overseas. While overseas, she also coached at the international level for U18 women's basketball programs.

My international playing and coaching has given me a diverse perspective on the game, and I look forward to bringing that energy and knowledge to the team," says Shafer. Shafer served as the Director of Basketball Operations and Assistant Basketball Coach at Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia for a season. Her responsibilities ranged from coordinating team travel arrangements, managing the team's budget, and assisting with scheduling practices and games, while adhering to the NCAA regulations. She was also responsible for the equipment, recruiting events, player evaluations, and maintaining recruiting databases and records.
Both her administrative and marketing experience extend beyond basketball. Following her graduation from the University of Nottingham, Shafer held the position of Director of Marketing and Business Development at ICN Media (International Celebrity Networks) in Nottingham, United Kingdom, from September 2019 to March 2020. With ICN Media, she developed marketing strategies to increase the brand while also creating and executing digital marketing plans.
While attending Urbana, Shafer was a Sport Marketing Assistant from August 2016 to June 2018. In this position, she coordinated a variety of social media updates, such as updating team websites, while assisting with the development of marketing campaigns. Shafer also worked for the Dayton Dragons in Dayton, Ohio, as a Customer Service Representative.
