LORDS OF THE RINGS: WC Recognizes Track & Field Trio at Ring Ceremony

A Christmas week presentation of national championship rings to Faith Duncan, Nathen Borgan and J.J. Durr capped one of the most remarkable eras in Wilmington College track and field history. Indeed, the past several years witnessed the achievement of six individual national champions, multiple All-American designations and numerous championships. Indeed, the men's team placed ninth, eighth and 13th in the nation from the 2023 through 2025 outdoor seasons.

The ring presentation ceremony served as a final victory lap for the trio, according to Head Coach Tristen Durr. "It's a good way to get everybody back together to look back on the time they spent here," he said. "It's amazing to look back on how much this group accomplished!"

Duncan received two rings representing her titles in the 2025 NCAA D-III Indoor Track & Field Championship 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs to complement her rings for the 2024 outdoor 5,000 and the 2024 cross country championship. That's four national championships in three semesters at WC! She qualified as the favorite for the 2025 outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 events, but an injury prevented her from competing last May.

Durr won the 2025 indoor weight throw and placed fourth in the outdoor hammer throw. He was third in the outdoor hammer in 2024 and, in 2023, placed eighth in the indoor weight throw and fifth in the outdoor hammer – making him a five-time All-American. Borgen won the outdoor hammer throw after taking fourth in the indoor weight throw in 2025, took second in the 2024 outdoor hammer and, in 2023, placed sixth in the hammer and seventh in the weight throw. He is also a five-time All-American. The Durr/Borgen duo literally owned the 2025 national indoor and outdoor weight/hammer throws.

As that remarkable era comes to a close, also noted should be the accomplishments of Brady Vilvens '25, the 2023 outdoor high jump champion and a 2024 First Team All-American; Simon Heys '24/'25 (MOL), a seven-time First Team All-American in cross country and track; and Noah Tobin '24/'25 (MOL), a multiple distance OAC champion in track and cross country.
