(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Quakers travel to take on the No. 2 seed Capital University Comets on Thursday night at 7 P.M. in the OAC Tournament Semifinals.
Semifinals Preview
In the regular season, the Quakers met the Comets on October 22nd at Capital. Wilmington lost that match 1-0 on a Capital goal scored in the 20th minute in the first half. The Quakers' offense was kept quiet in this contest. MJ Little had three shots on goal, but the combination of Alex Wilson and Jordan Snyder each had just one shot on target. Emma Storck made nine saves in the match. Overall, Wilmington had nine shots with six on goal, and Capital took 14 shots and had nine on frame. The Comets also drew seven corner kicks and the Quakers only took one.
Among the conference ranks, Wilmington's 30 goals rank first ahead of Capital's 27 goals in second. The Comets are second in shots with 249 while the Quakers' 280 shots are still the highest. Each side is closer in terms of shots on goal with Wilmington taking 130 to Capital's 125 shots on goal. Per game, the Quakers average 14.74 shots and the Comets average 14.65. The Comets had five players recognized for All-OAC honors. Sophomore Taylor Duff was named co-midfielder of the year and First Team All-OAC. Defender Elise Buckerfield was selected as OAC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-OAC. Juli Sprague and Bella Leonetti were named Second Team All-OAC, and Mya Swearengin was recognized as Third Team All-OAC.
Goalkeeper Liv Alford has allowed 16 goals in 16 games this season while posting eight shutouts, the second most in the OAC. She has made 68 saves and averages 4.25 saves per game this year. Capital's attack is spread out. Bella Leonetti, Lizzie Elliott, Juli Sprague, and Sofia Walton each have four goals. Leonetti also leads the team with five assists and 13 points.
Quarterfinals Recap
Wilmington's offense kept rolling in their Quarterfinals match against Baldwin Wallace. Two first half goals from MJ Little and Jordan Snyder sent the Quakers into halftime up 2-0. A 67th minute goal brought the Yellow Jackets within one, but Alex Wilson closed out the game scoring in the 82nd minute to secure Wilmington's 3-1 victory. Notably, the Quakers had 28 shots, 16 in the first half and 12 in the second half, with 12 total on target.
