(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) - Wilmington concluded their season fall in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to WashU 7-0
The reigning national champions Bears overpowered the Quakers immediately. WashU took a 1-0 lead in the first five minutes. Wilmington was unable to get into a rhythm but held strong defensively in the first half. The Bears doubled their lead, scoring in the 21st minute to go up 2-0. WashU's second goal came after a rebound off Emma Storck's save, which the Bears tapped in. Storck made seven saves in the first half to keep them at bay. MJ Little had a pair of well-timed runs but could not get a shot off.
WashU took over the second half. Wilmington held them in check the first 15 minutes out of the break, but the Bears scored three straight in just five minutes. Their fourth and sixth goals came from penalty kicks. The Bears scored their seventh goal in the 76th minute. Despite the score, Storck made multiple diving saves in net. The Quakers' captain ended the day with 16 total saves. Alex Wilson and Jordan Snyder had some opportunities late but were unable to take any shots.
Wilmington will look to defend their Ohio Athletic Conference regular and postseason title next season with a strong core of returnees.
