Ohio Northern Bests Men's Soccer 4-1

Box Score

ADA, Ohio - Ludwig Lantz scored the Wilmington College men's soccer team's lone goal in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Ohio Northern University (ONU) in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action on Wednesday evening.

Zachary Yoder opened the scoring for ONU by netting his first goal of the season on a header from six yards out off a cross from Jacob Westerkamp. The Polar Bears (10-3-1, 3-1-0 OAC) doubled their lead just before halftime as Levi King connected on a 25-yard blast for his eighth goal of the year.

Trailing 2-0, Wilmington could have packed it in, but Lantz chested in a cross from Daniel Kappelin in the 67ths minute to get the Fightin' Quakers within a single goal. ONU capitalized on Wilmington pushing numbers forward in an attempt to tie the game, however, as the hosts netted a goal in the 79th minute as well as the 88th to earn the 4-1 victory.

The Polar Bears held a 22-8 edge in shots including by an 8-4 margin in shots on goal. ONU earned six corner kicks to Wilmington's two while also committing 15 fouls to the Quakers' eight.

Individually, Niklas Martensson and Kappelin both took two shots while four other Quakers fired one. Levi King had nine of the Polar Bears' shots on the evening.

John Lombardo improved to 7-1-0 in net for ONU as he saved 3-of-4 shots. Felix Maurer dipped to 7-5-0 with the loss for Wilmington saving 4-of-8 shots.

Wilmington looks to return to winning ways as it returns to Williams Stadium to face Marietta College on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
