@DubC_Softball swept by Saints

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Wilmington College softball team dropped both ends of their non-conference doubleheader Wednesday to Thomas More at the Wilmington College Softball Complex.

THOMAS MORE 8, WILMINGTON 2

Thomas More blew open a close game with a six-run sixth inning, and the Saints registered the 8-2 win in the opener.  Three straight errors to start the inning opened the door for Thomas More. The first six hitters reached, and five of the six runs crossed the plate before the first out was recorded.

Wilmington opened the scoring in first as sophomore Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) singled, moved to second on a sacrifice and to third on a single by senior Jessie Stewart (Fredericktown, OH/Highland). Hooper raced home with the game's first run on a wild pitch.

The lead didn't last long as the Saints executed a two-out double steal to knot the score at one. They captured the lead with a two-out double in the fifth inning.

Stewart and Hooper each went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Hooper and junior Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) each scored a run. Sophomore Chandler Fields (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) added an RBI.

Sophomore Becca Carpenter, 3-2, (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) allowed five runs, three earned in five innings of work on six hits with three strikeouts.

THOMAS MORE 9, WILMINGTON 1

The top three hitters in the TMC lineup with 7-for-10 with five runs scored and seven RBI as the Wilmington College softball team fell in the second game, 9-1.

Thomas More had two big scoring innings, a three-run fourth and a four-run seventh, in blowing open the game.

Wilmington managed just four hits in the loss. Fields recorded the lone extra-base hit, a double in the second, and she came around to score WC's only run of the game. A one-out single by Trautman brought home Fields.

Carpenter, 3-3, allowed five earned runs in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss. She surrendered six hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Wilmington (5-5) hosts Spalding 1 p.m. Saturday in non-conference action.
