Dominant performance for @DubC_MensLax

Box Score

The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team unleashed 63 shots, including 35 on goal, as the Fightin' Quakers beat Bethany 14-5 in non-conference action on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

"We continue to play really well in the second half which sealed the deal for us," said Wilmington head coach Domenic Marzano. "We need to find a way to start stronger in the first half. It's been a trend this year starting out a little slow. I'm excited to see us grow at the rate we are. It's only a matter of time until we put together four quarters of good lacrosse."

Wilmington scored five straight goals, and seven of eight, during a stretch that spanned the end of the first period and the beginning of the third to take control of the game. The scoring barrage came on the heels of Bethany knotting the game at two on back-to-back power play goals.

The Bison momentum was halted two minutes later when junior Reid Delaney (Wooster, OH/Wooster) scored the go-ahead goal with a shade over a minute remaining in the first period. Four different players tallied goals as the Fightin' Quakers rattled off the aforementioned five-goal run.

Senior Jalen Jackson (Hilliard, OH/Bradley), junior Chris Hein (McKinney, TX/McKinney) and Delaney all scored three goals with one assist to lead Wilmington. Junior Jhordan Lang (Sunbury, OH/Big Walnut) added two goals and one assist, while senior Alexander Gossard (Galloway, OH/Hilliard Bradley) added two goals.

Senior defender Zach Swenson (Milford, OH/Milford) added his first career goal.

Behind the great play of sophomore Matt Kneesi (Bowling Green, OH/Bowling Green), Wilmington dominated face-offs – winning 16 of 22. Kneesi was perfect in the second and fourth quarters. After struggling recently, the Fightin' Quakers were a stellar 39-of-45 in clear attempts Saturday.

Wilmington (2-2) travels to Angola, IN 6 p.m. Wednesday to face Trine in non-conference action.
