The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team opened the season with a 14-6 loss to Alma in non-conference action on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

• Alma improved to 2-0 on the season, while Wilmington falls to 0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Alma scored four of the first five goals and seven of the first nine, and never relinquished control of the game. The Scots scored on four of their first five shots.
• Wilmington was held scoreless in the fourth period, getting outscored 5-0.
• Senior Jalen Jackson (Hilliard, OH/Bradley) registered half of Wilmington's six goals. He tallied a goal in each of the first three periods, including power play goals in the first and third periods.
• Sophomore Jhordan Lang (Sunbury, OH/Big Walnut) finished with a goal and an assist.
• Senior Ethan Zimpfer (Botkins, OH/Botkins) and sophomore Matt Dugan (Hilliard, OH/Davidson) each tallied goals.
• Senior Austin Johnson (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Bradley) led the team with three caused turnovers, while junior Chris Hein (McKinney, TX/McKinney) recorded a team-high five ground balls.
• In his first career start, sophomore Jake Ladendorf (Crown Point, IN/Crown Point) allowed 14 goals on 25 shots.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Wilmington was just 3-of-9 in man-up situations, while the Scots were 2-of-4.
• Alma was solid in clear attempts, converting the first 26 attempts, and finished 29-of-31.
• After winning four of the first seven face-offs, the Fightin' Quakers were just 5-of-15 for the rest of the game.

• "I'm glad we finally got to go out and get a game under our belt," said Wilmington head coach Domenic Marzano. "You could tell it was our first outing of the year. Now we know what we need to improve on and can focus on some issues in practice."
• "We never really into a groove as a whole," said Marzano. "Turnovers killed us today.  We were really careless with the ball. We had lot of unforced passing errors, which took us out of the game; definitely a wake-up call.  However, all our mistakes can and will be fixed by Wednesday's game at Wabash."
