Box Score 2 CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY – The Wilmington College softball team suffered a pair of losses Wednesday to Thomas More in non-conference action, falling 7-5 and 7-1.
GAME ONE: THOMAS MORE 7, WILMINGTON 5
Krista Summe hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Saints the 7-5 victory. It came on the heels of the Fightin' Quakers taking the lead with a three-run seventh.
Freshman Emily Smith (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) pulled Wilmington to within a run with a two-out single, and junior Hillary Daria-White (Felicity, OH/Felicity Franklin) doubled home two more runs to give Wilmington the advantage.
The game started with a bang for Wilmington as sophomore Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) drilled her first career homerun in the top of the first. Thomas More answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but WC responded in the second as junior Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) drew a bases loaded walk.
The Saints scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the lead into the final inning.
Trautman finished 2-for-4 with a one scored and RBI, while senior Jess Clutter was 2-for-4 with a double. Smith added a two-hit game, as well as sophomore Sydney Kelly (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore), who was 2-for-3 with a double.
Freshman Beth Persicano (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) took the loss (1-6), allowing seven runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings.
GAME TWO: THOMAS MORE 7, WILMINGTON 1
A grand slam by Krista Summe was the big blow as Thomas More scored the final seven runs of the game to post the 7-1 victory.
Clutter was responsible for Wilmington's lone run with a leadoff homer in the second inning. She also recorded two of WC's five hits in the game.
Freshman Whitney Edwards (Frankfort, KY/Franklin County) registered a double in three at-bats.
Trautman took the loss (3-2), allowing seven runs on 11 hits in five innings of work.
Wilmington returns to action 3:30 p.m. Thursday, hosting Mount St. Joseph.
