Martin Holmquist's goal with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation allowed Wilmington to record a 2-2 tie against #23 Denison Wednesday in non-conference action at Charlie Gilhart Field.

"We showed signs of what we are capable of doing," said head coach Bud Lewis. "Denison is a very good team. They are good technically, very fit and athletic, and plays hard. They are aggressive with good speed."

Holmquist took a nice feed from senior Jeff Graham, made a nice move on the defender and beat the goalkeeper sending the raucous Gilhart Field crowd in an uproar. It was his second goal on the season. In just his second game back, Graham has made an impact to the Wilmington lineup.

"Jeff has given us stability in the back," said Lewis. "He has provided us with senior leadership, and it's great to have him back. Martin showed his measure today."

Wilmington got off to a fast start as sophomore Nick Toney scored his fourth goal of the season just four minutes into the contest. Despite the fast start, the Quakers began to see the nationally-ranked Big Red show why they are unbeaten.

Denison tallied 10 of its 15 shots in the first half, and finally broke through in the 34th minute. The Big Red then claimed the lead with less than a minute remaining in the half.

Lewis stated that the goals resulted in the fact the visitors simply played harder during the latter parts of the first half.

Senior Anton Niklasson recorded three saves, including a pivotal one in the second overtime period.

Wilmington (2-6-1) hosts Case Western Reserve 7:30 p.m. Saturday in non-conference action at Charlie Gilhart Field.
