(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College football team took a 16-0 lead after the first quarter of tonight's game at The College of Wooster and never looked back en route to a 22-19 season opening victory.

This is the second season in a row the Quakers have defeated the Fighting Scots to begin their year and third season out of four.

After a weather delay, the game got underway at 8:00 P.M., rather than the originally scheduled 7:00 P.M. start time.

Wilmington got off to the best start imaginable. After an eight-yard pass play to start the drive, freshman Kaiden Molnar blew past the defense for a 64-yard touchdown run to give the Quakers a 7-0 lead less than a minute into the game.

The Quakers scored again on their next drive, helped out by a huge 15-yard pitch and catch to Darryl Story on a 3rd and 14 to put them at the Scots seven-yard line. Sammy Amnah made it 14-0 after a seven-yard touchdown catch.

Wilmington's defense stepped up for the Quakers next points, forcing a Scots safety with 5:10 remaining in the first quarter for a 16-0 lead. Wooster botched their punt attempt, which forced them to jump on the ball in the end zone for the safety.

Wooster's defense followed this by forcing the Quakers to punt on four straight possessions. A 33-yard kickoff return by Story put Wilmington in good position late in the first half before a 41 yard pass to Joseph Spann put the Quakers at the Scots three yard line. Senior Bryce Stout put the ball in the end zone on the ground for a 22-12 lead, which would hold going into the locker room.

The Quakers advanced into Wooster territory on a handful of occasions in the second half but couldn't score another point. The Fighting Scots took advantage of an interception to set them up for a score to make it 22-19 early in the fourth quarter.

Wooster got the ball into Quakers territory late in the game with a chance to tie or win it, but an unnecessary roughness penalty stalled the drive, and a DJ Lewis interception sealed the win for Wilmington.

• Nathan Nemeth had two pass breakups while Jordan Fitzpatrick recorded one.
• Story returned four kickoffs for 96 yards.
• Darrick Perdue blocked a Scots PAT.
