(BLUFFTON, Ohio) – The Bluffton Beavers snapped the Wilmington Quakers' four-match winning streak with a 3-0 victory Wednesday night at the Sommer Center.
In the opening set, Bluffton built a 9-5 advantage before using a 5-0 run to take a commanding 14-5 lead. Although Wilmington, led by kills from Mackenzie Simpson, Aubrey Clark and Magee Fain, narrowed the gap to six, Bluffton stayed ahead for the remainder of the frame to secure a 25-14 victory.
In the second frame, the Beavers recorded 17 kills with a .303 hitting percentage while limiting the Quakers to seven kills and a .080 hitting percentage. Despite the disparity in attack, Wilmington opened the set with a 7-5 lead. Bluffton quickly flipped the momentum, turning the two-point deficit into a 15-7 advantage with a 10-0 run that featured five kills. The Green and White answered by scoring seven of the next nine points to cut the deficit to 17-14. The Beavers then responded by closing the set on an 8-3 run to earn a 25-17 victory.
The Beavers tallied 14 kills to the Quakers' 10 in the clinching frame. After Wilmington pulled ahead 6-5 in the third set, Bluffton responded and the Quakers never regained the lead. Wilmington used a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 10-9, but the Beavers maintained control for the remainder of the frame.
Bluffton secured the straight-set victory with a 25-17 win in the third.
