Quakers Storm Past Harriers 3-0, Metz Sets Career High in Assists

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - The Wilmington Quakers swept the Miami Hamilton Harriers in their season opener at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court on Wednesday night.

The Quakers jumped ahead to a 14-4 lead behind kills from Mackenzie Simpson, Paige Shouse, Aubrey Clark, Magee Fain and Emelia Mohler. After back-to-back points by Miami Hamilton, Wilmington, spurred on by two kills apiece from Mohler and Magee Fain, clinched a dominant 25-7 first-set victory. The Quakers scored 10 of the final 11 points in the set.

Led by kills from Simpson, Clark and Shouse, the Green and White continued to roll in the second set, building a 10-2 lead. After pulling ahead 14-4 for the second consecutive set, Wilmington, paced by assists from Jana Metz and digs from Logan McQuillin, once again tallied 10 of the final 11 points en route to a 25-5 victory.

The third set was the most competitive of the three. Although the Quakers built a 10-3 lead, the Harriers countered with a 10-5 run to narrow the deficit to 15-13. Later in the set, with Wilmington leading 19-17, Simpson tallied a kill that sparked one final offensive surge for the Quakers. Wilmington scored five of the next six points, including three on kills by Clark and Addison Sparks, before clinching the final frame 25-18 to complete the season-opening sweep.
