Softball Earns Big Win Over Ohio Northern This Afternoon in Resumed Contest

(BLUFFTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College softball team resumed their weather delayed game from Wednesday afternoon against Ohio Northern University today, where the two teams played at Bluffton University.

The game was picked back up in the bottom of the first inning with Ohio Northern leading 1-0. Wilmington went to work in the top of the second frame, scoring three runs for a 3-1 lead. The Quakers runs were brought in by a wild pitch, Jobey Hattan single through the left side of the infield, and an Alasandra Spears single into center field.

Their final run came in the top of the third inning on a Maddie Starnes single into right field for a 4-1 lead. The Polar Bears scored once in the bottom of the sixth, but Wilmington shut the door from there for a 4-2 victory.

  • Maddie Starnes and Jobey Hattan led the Quakers with two hits apiece at the plate.
  • Starnes, Hattan, and Alasandra Spears all had an RBI.
  • Four Quakers scored one run.
  • Ashley Jo Hardesty and Grace Cline both hit a double.
  • Audrey Gildea got the win in the circle, throwing 5.1 innings of two run softball, allowing four hits while striking out three Polar Bears.
  • Megan Spence came in to earn her first save of the season, pitching 1.2 innings and not allowing a single baserunner, while striking out one hitter.

Wilmington is right back in action tomorrow afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader against the Anderson University (Ind.) Ravens beginning at 3:00 P.M. at the WC Softball Complex.
