Quakers Fall Twice at Muskingum

(NEW CONCORD, Ohio) - The Quakers dropped both games at Muskingum on Saturday.  

Game 1 – 12-2 Loss (7 Inn.) to Muskingum 

Braden Chambers doubled with one out, as Dominic Depa drove him in with a single to put Wilmington ahead 1-0 in the top of the 1st. Max Gildea surrendered a two-run home run in the bottom half, but stranded three men on base, now trailing 2-1.  

The hosts added three more runs on three hits in the bottom of the 2nd, forcing Gildea out. Down 5-1, Liam Denehy was called in relief and secured the final out. Eli Hollingsworth and Zane Matthews both singled in the top of the 4th, but were left onboard. Nathan Powers relieved Denehy for a scoreless bottom of the 4th.  

J.C. Calhoun singled with two outs in the top of the 5th, and Bobby Fleming drove him in with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 5-2. Javier Serantes came on in relief in the bottom of the 6th and allowed two runs with Dawson Blunt, giving up a third with Muskingum ahead 8-2. The Muskies walked off Wilmington with a two-run home run to take game one 12-2 in seven innings.  

Game 1 Notables 

Game 2 – 13-6 Loss to Muskingum 

Brody Julian and Dominic Depa both singled to open game two but were stranded. Muskingum got on board with a solo shot in the bottom half off. The hosts added four more runs off four hits in the bottom of the 2nd with a run single and two-run homer.  

The Quakers got on the board with a J.C. Calhoun two-run home run in the top of the 3rd. Muskingum scored four more runs in the bottom of the 4th to take a 12-2 lead. After two scoreless frames, Wilmington tacked on three runs in the top of the 6th. Kyle Jennings led off with a single and Fleming walked. With two men on, Max Gildea crushed a three-run home run, cutting the deficit to 12-5. 

The hosts added another run in the bottom of the 6th, to extend their lead to 13-5. A fielder's choice from Depa drove in Wilmington's sixth run, but the Quakers dropped game two 13-6.  

Game 2 Notables 

  • Max Gildea slugged a three-run home run, going 2-4 with a run and 3 RBIs for his fifth longball of the year. 

What's Up Next 

The Quakers head to Kenyon College tomorrow to wrap up their season series, with first pitch set for 1:00 P.M.
