(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Quakers split their doubleheader against the Owls, storming ahead in game two with an 8-2 victory after being walked off 6-5 in the first contest.
Game 1 – 6-5 Loss to Kenyon
The Owls took an early lead in the bottom of the 1st after two straight two-out singles plated in the first run. Wilmington answered with three runs in the top of the 2nd. Audrey Gildea led off with a single, and after two fielder's choices, Jobey Hattan singled and Addysen Stevens walked. Alasandra Spears roped a two-run single, and Jocelyn Franz singled in the third run to take a 3-1 lead.
Megan Spence retired the side in order in the bottom half. Kymberlin Masino and Ashley Jo Hardesty each singled in the top of the 3rd, but Wilmington stranded three runners. Kenyon tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the 3rd after a double and three straight singles, bringing in Gildea for relief.
A two-out single by the Owls gave the hosts a 4-3 lead as Audrey Patel relieved Gildea in the bottom of the 4th. Wilmington took a 5-4 lead after Masino and Gildea both singled and Hardesty and Starnes both singled them in. Kenyon had an RBI single to tie the pair 5-5. The Owls walked off the Quakers with an RBI double in the bottom of the 7th, winning game one 6-5.
Game 1 Notables
Game 2 – 8-2 Win over Kenyon
After two scoreless frames, Wilmington took the lead in the top of the 3rd. Stevens led off with a single and an error on a sac-bunt by Franz scored the runner. Masino walked and got thrown out stealing, allowing Franz to score. Gildea singled and was brought home by Spears to take a 3-0 lead.
Belle Baughman worked around a hit to get through the bottom half of the 3rd. The starter allowed a run in the 4th after a single and a double with Wilmington still leading 3-1. Eldridge opened the top of the 5th with a solo shot to extend the lead to 4-1. Three batters reached, and after a wild pitch, both Hardesty and Gildea scored to take a 6-1 lead. Spears then scored on a passed ball, and Stevens singled to right center and was brought home by another error to push the Quakers' lead to 8-1.
Baughman remained in control, allowing a two-out one run triple in the bottom of the 7th, but the senior did not waiver as Wilmington took game two 8-2.
