(JOHNSTOWN, Pa.) – The Wilmington College baseball team lost a doubleheader Saturday at Mount Aloysius College, losing game one 3-2 and game two, 6-4. Due to weather, the games were played at a neutral site stadium and not on the Mounties campus.
Game 1 – Mount Aloysius Defeats Wilmington, 3-2 (7 Innings)
The Quakers struck early blood against the Mounties.
J.C. Calhoun worked a walk and stole second before advancing to third on a wild pitch. In a 2-2 count,
Dominic Depa laced one through the left side bringing in Calhoun.
JP Donelan kept the hot start going with a single into left center before the next three batters struck out.
Nathan Powers navigated through some traffic in the bottom of the 1st before inducing an inning-ending double play. After two strikeouts in the top of the second,
Hayden Koonce walked and stole second. Calhoun followed suit, working his second walk of the game. Depa came through again for the Quakers, finding the hole in the right side to score Koonce, putting Wilmington ahead 2-0.
Wilmington and Powers held the Mounties scoreless until the bottom of the 5th. A leadoff single started the run for the hosts. The third batter singled, putting runners on first and second with one out. After stealing third base, a sacrifice fly brought in Mount Aloysius' first run. The next batter singled in the tying run on a 3-2 count, tying the Quakers and Mounties at 2-2 as
Trent Mendenhall relieved Powers.
Max Gildea and
Cade Miller each singled in the top of the 6th, but
Caleb Fugate grounded into a double play to end the inning. The Mounties singled with one out in the bottom half, but they too grounded into an inning ending double play. Wilmington went down in order in the top of the 7th. Mendenhall got the leadoff batter out before giving up a single in the bottom of the 7th. He got the next batter to fly out for the second out before the fourth hitter slapped a walk-off triple into the right center gap, to take down Wilmington 3-2.
