Quakers Fall Twice in Saturday Road Doubleheader

(BEREA, Ohio) - After dropping game one in five innings, the Quakers' offense stormed ahead in game two but could not hold off the Yellow Jackets' attack, dropping both games on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1 – 10-2 (5 Inn.) Loss

The Yellow Jackets stormed ahead in the first inning. A lead-off walk, followed by an error and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with no outs. Megan Spence walked in the next batter, putting the Quakers down 1-0. Spence got the next two batters out, including a strikeout, before giving up a grand slam. The hosts were not finished, working a walk and a double to tack on a sixth run, going ahead 6-0.

Alasandra Spears led off with a walk, but the next two batters got out. Addysen Stevens singled down the left field line, scoring Spears to cut the deficit to 6-1. Belle Baughman relieved Spence in the bottom of the 2nd, but Baldwin Wallace added three more runs. A leadoff triple and double led to a two-run home run, putting Wilmington down 9-1.

Jobey Hattan laced a two-out triple in the top of the 4th and then scored on a wild pitch. Trailing 9-2, the Yellow Jackets walked off the Quakers. The leadoff batter reached on an error, and then a follow-up double clinched the 10-2 win in game one.

Game 1 Notables

  • Jobey Hattan went 1-2, driving in a run and smoking a triple.

  • Addysen Stevens drove in one RBI, going 1-2 at the plate with one stolen base.

Game 2 – 9-7 Loss

After a scoreless first inning, Wilmington's attack surged in the second. Alaina Eldridge led off with a double and on an 0-1 count; Alasandra Spears crushed a home run, putting the Quakers on top 2-0. Jobey Hattan reached on an error as Jocelyn Franz singled her home. Kymberlin Masino followed that with a double, scoring Franz and then Megna Spence singled back up the middle, scoring Masino. With Wilmington leading 5-0 already, Baldwin Wallace called the bullpen and escaped the barrage.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 2nd, now trailing 5-1. The hosts added a second run in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-2. After holding Wilmington scoreless, Baldwin Wallace scored their third run off back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the 4th.

The Quakers' bats remained silent through the sixth inning. The Yellow Jackets stung back with their own offensive outburst. A five-run sixth inning erased the 5-3 deficit in a blink. A trio of singles, a pair of walks, and a triple encapsulated the Yellow Jackets' attack. Wilmington answered in the top of the 7th but fell short. Masino worked a leadoff walk for Ashley Jo Hardesty, who homered her home. Eldridge singled, but Spears and Gildea each got out, closing a 9-7 win for Baldwin Wallace.
