(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - Quakers led 4-2, but a four-run sixth inning propelled the Yeomen to a series sweep, taking game three 9-5.
Max Gildea started on the bump for Wilmington, taking care of the side in order with a strikeout to put the bats in the Quakers' hands. Braden Chambers collected his first of four hits with a leadoff single. Dominic Depa reached on an error as JP Donelan laced a ball to left, moving Depa to third. A sacrifice fly by Cade Miller scored Depa, giving the Quakers an early 1-0 lead.
Gildea hit the first two batters in the top of the 2nd and then allowed an unearned run following an error. Tied 1-1 with runners on second and third, Gildea retired the next three batters to strand two men on base. The tall righty worked around more traffic in the top of the third with another hit by pitch but held the Yeomen at bay.
Wilmington retook the lead in the bottom of the 3rd, fueled by Chambers once again. The centerfielder singled to lead off the inning and then stole second. An error by the shortstop allowed Chambers to score, putting the green and white ahead 2-1. Gildea allowed his first hit of the game in the top of the 4th, a leadoff double. Two batters later, Oberlin singled to left center, tying the game 2-2.
Hayden Koonce started a rally in the bottom of the 5th with a one-out single. Chambers again came through, singling through the middle. With two outs, Donelan hit a frozen rope back up the middle, scoring Koonce. Cade Miller kept the rally going, singling to the shortstop, scoring Depa. Jarrett Morris relieved Gildea to open the top of the 6th. Morris struggled, failing to finish the inning. He allowed a double and three singles as the visitors inched back, trailing 4-3. Trent Mendenhall relieved Morris with one out and allowed the tying run. Mendenhall then walked two batters, bringing in a run and a passed ball allowed the Yeomen's sixth run to score.
Trailing 6-4, Wilmington failed to score in the 6th and 7th inning. The Yeomen tacked on another run in the top of the 8th, leading 7-4. J.C. Calhoun and Caleb Fugate each pinch-hit in the bottom of the 8th, with the pair singling, as Fugate brought Calhoun home to cut the deficit to 7-5. Oberlin scored two more insurance runs in the top of the 9th, stifling Wilmington's offense en route to a 9-5 win.
