(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - After erasing multiple deficits, a big eighth inning swung the game away from the Quakers against the Tigers.
Brad Miller started for the Quakers and worked through the top of the 1st inning with ease. His bats picked him up in the bottom half, with a leadoff double by Braden Chambers, crushed to left. On a 2-0 count, Dominic Depa roped a ball over the right field fence for a two-run home run, putting the Quakers ahead early. Bobbly Fleming doubled with two outs to deep center, but the inning closed with Wilmington ahead 2-0.
The Tigers answered in the top of the 2nd, tying the score 2-2. The Quakers went down in order, as Wittenberg tacked on more in the top of the 3rd. Two straight singles, followed by a sacrifice fly gave the visitors a 3-2 lead before back-to-back two-out singles plated more runs, putting the Tigers ahead 5-2.
Chambers and Depa led off the bottom of the 3rd with singles, as JP Donelan walked to load the bases. Wittenberg brought in a reliever, as Fleming drove in Chambers and Kyle Jennings singled home Depa, putting Wilmington down 5-4. A two-out single by Eli Hollingsworth scored Donelan, tying the game 5-5. Miller mowed through the 4th inning and cruised through the 5th until Liam Denehy relieved him after a two-out double, as the lefty escaped the jam.
Wittenberg brought in the go-ahead run in the top of the 6th on a fielder's choice. Wilmington tied it in the bottom of the 7th as J.C. Calhoun started the rally with a single. Chambers walked, and Depa slapped a single to center to score Calhoun.
As the Quakers went into their bullpen, the Tigers fought back, bringing home seven runs in the top of the 8th and adding another run in the top of the 9th to go ahead and defeat Wilmington 14-6.
