(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - The Quakers drop game three to The University of Olivet Comets 2-1 at home on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first, the Comets struck first in the top of the 2nd. Gildea allowed a single, and the runner stole second before advancing to third on a groundout. The junior right hander struck out the next batter, but he reached first base on a throwing error by Hayden Koonce which brought the first run home.
The Quakers went down in order through the first two frames. In the bottom of the 3rd, Braden Chambers reached by a hit by pitch, stole second, and advanced to third on a balk, but both Eli Hollingsworth and J.C. Calhoun struck out to end the inning.
Gildea navigated past a leadoff single in the top of the 4th. Wilmington tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Evan Brauch walked and moved to second on a balk. With two outs, Kyle Jennings singled right up the middle, bringing in Brauch to tie the score 1-1.
The visiting Comets retook the lead in the top of the 5th after a leadoff single and a stolen base. The Comets singled up the middle, bringing in the go ahead run. The Quakers' best chance came in the bottom of the 7th. Jennings singled to open the inning followed by a single by Chambers. With runners on second and first, a fielder's choice moved Jennings to third. Hollingsworth struck out with the tying run on third.
JP Donelan dealt with some traffic in relief for Gildea in the top of the 8th. The right hander walked the first batter and struck out the next before allowing a single. He induced a popup and then walked the next batter until he stranded three with a fielder's choice. Wilmington went down in order in the bottom of the 9th, falling to the Comets 2-1.
