(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team swept the Marietta College Pioneers this afternoon with an 85-82 victory, after beating them in Marietta earlier this season 85-77. This is their first time sweeping the Pioneers since the 2008-09 season.
Wilmington is currently in a three-team tie for fourth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) standings at 5-7 as they look for their first berth in the OAC Tournament since the 2021-22 season. They are 9-12 overall.
The Quakers jumped out to a big 11-point lead early in the game at 17-6 thanks to the efforts of
Domenic Farley (7 points) and
Ben Golan (4 points). Marietta stormed right back with a 14-3 run to knot the game up at 20-20 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
Neither team gained an inch over the next seven minutes of action as Wilmington held a narrow 30-29 advantage. The Quakers used a quick 6-2 over the next two minutes however for a five-point 36-31 lead. This lead held at the half, with the Quakers up 38-36.
The first 10 minutes of the second half went Wilmington's way, as they went ahead by 10 points after a 27-19 run made it a 65-55 game. Several Quakers contributed during this stretch of play, with
Izaiah Cathey leading the way with six points.
Marietta cut the lead to three points at 69-66 with seven minutes to play before Wilmington looked to put the game out of reach with a 10-0 run and a 79-66 lead. A pair of three pointers fueled this Quakers rally.
The Pioneers didn't back down though and made it a one-point game at 81-80 with 1:13 left. Wilmington stayed calm and
Gabe Green knocked down four free throws down the stretch to win 85-82.

- Domenic Farley led the team with 18 points, while Elijah Cathey (17), Izaiah Cathey (13), Carson Miles (13), and Ben Golan (12) all contributed double digit efforts.
- Elijah Cathey led the team with nine rebounds and dished out a game high seven assists.
