Quakers Lose at Otterbein Wednesday Night Despite Solid Shooting

(WESTERVILLE, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team lost on the road Wednesday night in the Rike Center, 87-77. The Quakers trailed by six at the break and couldn't make a comeback over the final 20 minutes of play.

Wilmington came out hot to start the game, leading 17-10 less than 10 minutes into the contest. Senior Domenic Farley led the charge with eight points, while Ben Golan added five and Elijah Cathey four. The Cardinals roared back with an 18-2 run to lead 28-19 with 8:21 remaining in the first half.

The Quakers didn't waver though and used a 13-4 rally of their own to tie the game back up at 32-32 with just under five minutes in the first half. Elijah Cathey had five points and Carson Miles four to fuel the comeback for Wilmington. Both teams traded buckets for the rest of the first half and Otterbein grabbed a 44-38 lead heading into the locker room.

Wilmington continued to trail by six points during the first 10 minutes of the second half. A 17-2 run ensued for the Cardinals to put them ahead 81-60 and put the game out of reach for the Quakers.

  • Elijah Cathey scored a game high 26 points, giving him four games this season with 21 or more points. He also led the team with four assists and tied for the game high with four steals.
  • Domenic Farley racked up his sixth game this season with over 20 points, scoring 21 against the Cardinals.
  • Ben Golan had a team high seven rebounds.
  • Izaiah Cathey had a game high four blocks.
  • The Quakers had their seventh game shooting 50% or better from the field, shooting exactly 50% (28-56) in the contest. This is their fifth Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) game shooting 50% or above.
  • They had their best night of the season from the free throw line, shooting 89.5% (17-19).

What's Up Next
The Quakers head to the University of Mount Union Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 P.M. contest with the Purple Raiders.

They look to split the season series after a close 84-77 loss in early January at home.
