Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Drops Season Opening Heartbreaker to William Peace in 3 OT's

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team began their 2026 season Saturday afternoon in Williams Stadium with an 8-7, three overtime loss to the William Peace University Pacers. This was the longest game in program history, and first game to ever go past a single overtime.

The Quakers started out hot, with three goals in the first quarter. These goals came from Dawson Fitzpatrick, Danny Fitzpatrick, and Tyler Cunningham. Wilmington made the score 4-0 in the second period after a second Danny Fitzpatrick tally. They led 4-1 at halftime.

The third quarter was all Pacers, where they scored five goals to Wilmington's one to go into the final quarter leading 6-5. The Quakers tied the game right back up less than a minute into the fourth off a Garrett Reigelsperger strike and a Zach Swearingen assist. The two teams traded goals over the final six minutes of regulation before heading into overtime.

Both teams had several opportunities in the first overtime, with the Pacers taking four shots with three on goal and Wilmington having three shots with one on goal. The Quakers looked to have it won in the first overtime with a goal, but a crease violation took it off the board and resumed play.

Neither team had any great looks in the second overtime, before the Pacers scored the game winning goal with 1:15 remaining in the third overtime period.
