Farley Scores 27 in Second Half of OAC Win vs. Capital

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team clawed past Capital University 94-89 Wednesday night in their return to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play. With this win, the Quakers are 7-6 overall this season and 3-1 in the OAC.

Both teams traded scores throughout the start of the first half, with the score tied at 11-11 just under eight minutes in. Wilmington used a slight 12-7 run from here for a 23-18 lead. This flurry was led by Izaiah Cathey's six points. Neither team grabbed an advantage throughout the remainder of the half, with the score tied 39-39 at the break.

The status quo continued in the second half, with Wilmington and Capital knotted up at 57-57 with 13:34 to play in the contest. The Comets grabbed a six-point lead after the tie, using a 10-4 rally for a 67-61 advantage.

Wilmington laid down the hammer from this point forward, erupting for a 22-2 run and an 83-69 lead with 5:44 remaining. The Quakers senior leader Domenic Farley scored 14 of their 22 points.

They led by as many as 14 points over the final minutes. Capital cut the lead down to four, but never closer in the Quakers victory.

Notables
  • For the second time this season and in his career, Domenic Farley exceeded the 30-point mark, scoring 31 to lead the game. 27 of his points came in an incredible second half performance. He has scored 12 or more points in 10 games this season and 22 or more in four games.
  • Izaiah Cathey scored 17 points for Wilmington, giving him eight games this season with 10 or more. He also had five blocks in the game, which ties him with several other Quakers for the third most single game blocks in program history.
  • Kellen Baltazar scored a career high 11 points.
  • Elijah Cathey grabbed a team high eight rebounds and dished out a game high six assists. He also tied with Farley for the game high with three steals.
  • The team shot 53.8% from the field, which is their second highest mark of the season. They shot 57.14% during the second half.
  • Their 42.3% mark from beyond the arc is also their second highest percentage this season.
  • They knocked down 11 three pointers, which is the fourth time this season they have made 10 or more.

What's Up Next
The Quakers host the undefeated University of Mount Union Purple Raiders on Saturday afternoon in Hermann Court.
