Wilmington Struggles Shooting and Falls at Marietta 87-47

(MARIETTA, Ohio) - Quakers fall to Marietta on the road 87-47 in their first game of 2026.

The Pioneers opened the game with steady scoring to lead early. A layup by Gabby Russell drew the Quakers within four points, trailing 12-8. Marietta remained in control offensively and defensively to lead 23-12 heading into the second quarter.

Marietta went on a 9-2 run to begin the second quarter. Stephanie Altstaetter hit a pair of free throws, but the Quakers' offense struggled and were unable to get many shots to fall. Russell, Sierra McCoin, and Morgan Love all scored late for Wilmington, but the green and white found themselves down 52-22 at half.

Ashton Harris got the Quakers on the board to open the second half, but the offense fell stagnant again, going on multiple scoreless streaks. Katie Dryer converted an and-one opportunity for Wilmington, but the visitors only shot 3-17 in the third quarter.

Dryer and McCoin continued to score for the Quakers, but the Pioneers' offense and defense stayed in control for the remainder of the fourth quarter. Marietta defeated Wilmington 87-47.
