Wilmington Drops Road Contest at Otterbein

(WESTERVILLE, Ohio) - Quakers fall on the road to the Cardinals 74-42.  

Stephanie Altstaetter got Wilmington on the board with a layup in the first quarter. The Cardinals started off with a 21-2 run to open the game. Olivia Trusty added a layup for Wilmington, assisted by Jazz Johnson. Altstaetter added two more layups for the Quakers to close the first quarter.  

Altstaetter opened the second quarter with a free throw, followed by a three pointer by Gabby Russell to cut the deficit to 27-12. After a three by Otterbein, Johnson responded with a three of her own to keep the Quakers within 15 points. The Cardinals tacked on more points as Alstaetter and Russell traded baskets for the green and white. To close the half, Altstaetter knocked down two free throws to make the score 49-21 at the break. 

Taija Walker opened the scoring for Wilmington in the third quarter. Walker scored a layup after her offensive rebound, and on the next possession Sierra McCoin drilled a three for the Quakers. Altstaetter went on a six-point scoring streak to close the third quarter with the hosts leading 59-32 into the final quarter. 

After two layups by the Cardinals, Johnson scored a bucket. Otterbein's offense continued to shoot well throughout the fourth quarter. Walker had a steal on the defensive end which led to Makaela Ullman scoring a layup. Reese Pittman and Stephanie Gandy went back-to-back from downtown in the final minutes, as Wilmington fell 74-42 to Otterbein.  

Notables 

  • Stephanie Altstaetter scored 17 points. She grabbed three rebounds and shot 7-8 from the free throw line. 

  • Jazz Johnson scored five points. She led Wilmington with three assists, and added three rebounds, one block, and one steal.  

  • Olivia Trusty led the Quakers with five rebounds. She scored two points.  

  • Taija Walker had three steals. She grabbed four rebounds and scored two points, shooting 50%.
