(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - Quakers' offensive firepower proved too much for the Grizzlies on Wednesday night, as Wilmington defeated Franklin 3-1.
Wilmington set the offensive tone early in the first half, drawing a corner kick in the 2nd minute. Jordan Snyder took the first of 16 first-half shots in the 5th minute for the Quakers. Two minutes later, Snyder's shot dribbled past the keeper into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the year in the 7th minute. Franklin was unable to maintain possession or force any counterattacks. The Quaker's attack remained potent, forcing Grizzlies' goalkeeper Emma Watson to make numerous saves.
In the 35th minute, Alex Wilson cut in from the right wing to her left foot and curled in a wonderful shot from deep, giving the Quakers a 2-0 lead. Franklin drew a free kick just beyond midfield, and Alaina Kellerman placed a perfect ball over the top past the Quakers to Amirah Curry, whose shot went by Emma Storck in net. Wilmington maintained its 2-1 lead to end the half.
The Quakers offensive momentum carried over into the second half. Alex Wilson and MJ Little combined for four shots within nine minutes of each other, but to no avail. Jaice Neumaier led Jordan Snyder into space and Snyder cut through the box and perfectly placed her second goal of the night in the 62nd minute in the bottom left corner. Wilmington held onto their 3-1 lead, securing their second straight victory.
