Quakers Sweep Kuyper to Win First Match after Falling to Wheaton

(FRANKLIN, IN.) - Quakers secure their first win of the season over Kuyper College after losing the first match of the day to Wheaton College (Ill.).

Match 1

Wheaton jumped out to a quick 11-1 lead in the first set. The Quakers were trailing 20-8 when they went on a run to cut the lead to four, down 23-19. Wheaton held on to win the first set 25-19.

The Thunder took a 13-3 lead in the second set and overpowered the Quakers, winning 25-8.

The Quakers kept it close to start the third set with the Thunder. Up 13-9, the Thunder went on an 8-0 run to take a 21-9 lead and held off Wilmington, winning the final set 25-10.

Match 2

Tied 5-5 in the first set, Wilmington went on a 7-0 run fueled by kills from Emelia Mohler, Brinlee Preston, and Aubrey Clark to lead 12-5. A service ace by Kyra Frasier and back-to-back kills by Lydia Bridenbaugh pushed their lead up to 10, leading 20-10. The Quakers closed out the first set, winning 25-15.

Wilmington once again took a large lead early. An ace by Emelia Mohler and kills by Lydia Bridenbaugh helped the Quakers take a 12-4 lead. The Quakers were able to close out the set with three straight kills from Emelia Mohler, Aubrey Clark, and Brinlee Preston. Magee Fain secured the final kill to win the set 25-21.

The Thunder kept the score close throughout the third set. Wilmington was able to hold onto its 21-14 lead until Kuyper went on a run. The Thunder scored five straight to cut the Quakers' lead to two, trailing 21-19. Tied 22-22, Wilmington retook the lead after a service error and an attack error. Leading 24-22, a block by Magee Fain secured the match point for Wilmington, winning their first match 25-22 over Kuyper College.
