(ADA, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team lost a pair of games on the road Wednesday afternoon at Ohio Northern University, 13-0 and 11-5.
Game One – Ohio Northern defeats Wilmington, 13-0 (7 Innings)
The Quakers struggled in game one, falling behind 6-0 after the first two innings. Wilmington had runners in scoring position in both innings with one out, but couldn't hit them in.
Wilmington had another good chance to score in the top of the fourth after a
Dominic Depa double started the inning, but he wouldn't come home. They loaded the bases in the fifth, but a ground out ended the frame.
Game One Notables
Game Two – Ohio Northern defeats Wilmington, 11-5
The Quakers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning of game two. They took advantage of hit by pitches and wild pitches to score their first run as
Eli Hollingsworth was hit by pitch for an RBI and 1-0 lead. A
J.C. Calhoun RBI walk made it 2-0 before a wild pitch brought in the final run for a 3-0 lead.
Ohio Northern scored four runs over the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-3 lead before a
Kyle Jennings sacrifice fly tied the game in the top of the sixth at 4-4. The Polar Bears retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth and never looked back.
Wilmington picked up one more run in the eighth after
Braden Chambers began the inning with a triple to center field before a Jennings two out double brought him in.
Game Two Notables
- Braden Chambers led Wilmington with two hits.
- Kyle Jennings and Eli Hollingsworth also had one hit.
- Jennings had two RBI while Hollingsworth and J.C. Calhoun had one.
- Calhoun and Avery Battle stole a base, while seven Quakers were hit by a pitch.
- JP Donelan had a good start on the mound, keeping the Quakers in the game while throwing 4.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits, and striking out one batter.
