(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College softball team lost two games in non-conference play Monday afternoon at the WC Softball Complex to Transylvania University, 12-2 and 4-2.
Wilmington falls to 11-18 overall this season and are right back in action on the road tomorrow afternoon.
Game One – Transylvania defeats Wilmington, 12-2 (6 Innings)
The Pioneers grabbed three runs to begin the game, but Wilmington answered with a single run in the bottom of the first frame. After an out,
Jocelyn Franz and
Judaea Wilson hit singles into left field to put runners at first and second base. A Transylvania error loaded the bases with one out.
Samantha Schwab had an RBI fielder's choice, but that was all the Quakers could get to bring the score to 3-1.
Transylvania picked up three more runs over the next two innings to take a 6-1 advantage. The Quakers made it 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth after an
Alasandra Spears double into right center field to score Schwab, who walked to begin the inning. The Quakers had one more runner in scoring position throughout the remainder of the 12-2 defeat.
Game One Notables
- Jocelyn Franz led Wilmington with two hits, while four other players had one hit.
- Alasandra Spears and Samantha Schwab drove in the Quakers runs. Spears had the lone extra base hit with her fourth inning double.
- Mackenzie O'Neil struck out one Pioneer over 5.2 innings in the circle.
Game Two – Transylvania defeats Wilmington, 4-2
The Pioneers scored two runs in the first to start the game with a 2-0 lead. Wilmington had a chance to plate a run in the bottom of the second after a
Haley Johnson double over the right fielder's head to begin the inning. However, the threat was ended with a fly out, foul out, and a strikeout.
Transylvania extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth inning.
Samantha Schwab hit her first homerun of the season in the bottom of the fifth to dead center field to plate Wilmington's first run and cut the lead to 4-1. Wilmington's final run came in the seventh after Schwab scored on a fielding error by the Pioneers third baseman with two outs.
Game Two Notables
- Samantha Schwab led Wilmington with two hits, including the first homerun of her season and 12th of her Quakers career.
- Three other Quakers had one hit.
- Haley Johnson provided Wilmington's other extra base hit with her second inning double.
- Gracey Dearmon threw a complete game for Wilmington and gave the Quakers a chance to win. She allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits while striking out three Pioneers during her fourth start of the season in the circle.

The Quakers travel to Anderson, Indiana tomorrow afternoon to battle another Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent in the Anderson University Ravens. Their doubleheader begins at 3:30 P.M.
