(AMELIA, Ohio) – For the second game in a row, the Quakers were tested late in the ninth inning, and for the second game in a row, the Quakers prevailed and earned the victory.
Wilmington defeated the Mount St. Joseph University Lions Tuesday night at Midland Field for their second win in a row. They improve their overall record to 8-11 this season.
Neither team got much going offensively until the Lions grabbed their first run of the game on a fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Wilmington responded immediately with a three-run top of the fourth that was led by an
Avery Battle two-RBI double into right center field. He was set up by a
Dominic Depa walk and
Max Gildea reaching via an error before
Kyle Jennings laid down a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third with one out. Battle scored after
Braden Chambers hit a single into left field for a 3-1 Quakers advantage.
The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out two-RBI double.
Eli Hollingsworth gave the Quakers the lead back in the top of the sixth on a single up the middle to score Chambers, who singled and stole second.
Wilmington scored their final runs of the game and gave themselves a four-run lead after
Hayden Koonce hit a three-run double in the top of the seventh for a 7-3 advantage. Mount St. Joseph grabbed one run in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 7-4.
After one out in the ninth, a few hit by pitches and walks brought in the Lions first run and made it 7-5. Another walk cut the lead down to one at 7-6, but
Brayden Kisling came in and shut the door on Mount St. Joseph. He got a pop out before striking out the final batter of the game for the victory.
