Quakers Battle With Student Princes, Swept in Doubleheader

(TIFFIN, Ohio) - The visiting Wilmington Quakers fought with the host Heidelberg Student Princes but fell short in a doubleheader sweep, as the Student Princes took both games 6-2 and 11-10, respectively.

In game one, the Quakers jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the top of the third before giving up four in the bottom of the third.

In game two, Heidelberg jumped to an early 8-1 lead after the first inning, but Wilmington would chip away at the lead throughout the game, before tying it in the sixth. The Quakers would lose the game on a walk-off single by Heidelberg in the seventh.

GAME ONE

The Quakers got the scoring going in game one, with a third-inning single by Jocelyn Franz through the left infield gap, scoring Addysen Stevens.

However, they fall behind in the bottom half of the third, yielding four runs off four hits and an error.

In the top of the fourth, the Quakers got one back with an Ashley Jo Hardesty single that just passed the pitcher's glove into center field, scoring Haley Johnson to make it a 4-2 game.

The Student Princes would close it out with a 6-2 win with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Johnson would go 3-3 with a double and run scored, both in the fourth.

Kori Cornett would go 2-4.

Makenzie O'Neil takes the loss, yielding six runs off nine hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The Quakers fell early, yielding eight runs in the first inning, but they chipped away as the game continued.

Wilmington started the scoring early with Judaea Wilson's single over the shortstop, scoring Cornett.

Trailing 8-1 entering the second, the Quakers got two more back, with Addysen Stevens sending the first pitch to short center field, scoring Sam Schwab from second after the center fielder had trouble securing the ball.

Then, on the next pitch, Maddie Starnes steals home on a pick play.

In the fourth, Stevens blasts the first pitch past the third baseman for a single, bringing home Spears.

Wilmington scored four in the fifth, with Haley Johnson bouncing one past the pitcher and shortstop into center field, scoring Jocelyn Franz and Wilson.

Two batters later, Schwab, after reaching a full count, sends the seventh pitch she sees over the right fielder's head to the fence, scoring Ashley Jo Hardesty and Cici Harding, from second and first, respectively.

Cornett would double as well just three batters later, scoring Schwab, making the game 10-9.

The Quakers tied the game in the sixth on a Hardesty single into short left field, scoring Franz.

Wilson would go 2-3 with a walk, a stolen base, an RBI, and a run scored.

Schwab would go 3-4 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

Stevens would go 2-3 with a walk and 2 RBIs.

Audrey Patel would take the loss, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up four hits and one run, with that lone run being the walk-off run.
